About A Third of Us
A Third of Us is a Christian awareness movement dedicated to bringing attention to one of the greatest challenges facing global missions: billions of people still live without meaningful access to the Gospel.
The movement's name represents roughly one-third of humanity—people living in communities where there is little or no access to a local church, Scripture, Christian community, or someone who can personally tell them about Jesus.
These are not simply people who have heard the Gospel and decided against Christianity. Many have never had a meaningful opportunity to hear the message at all. Jesus may be virtually unknown within their families, communities, or entire people groups.
A Third of Us exists to make these often-overlooked communities visible to the global Church and encourage Christians to recognize the enormous opportunity that remains for fulfilling the Great Commission.
The Unreached
Unreached people can be found throughout the world. Some live in remote villages, isolated regions, or places where Christianity has historically had little presence. Others live in major cities, refugee communities, and increasingly in neighborhoods far from their traditional homelands.
Global migration has changed the landscape of missions. People from cultures that once seemed geographically distant may now live in major metropolitan areas where Christians have opportunities to build relationships with them.
Yet for many unreached communities, access to the Gospel remains extremely limited.
A Third of Us highlights this reality so Christians can better understand that being "unreached" is not primarily about geography. It is about access.
The Gospel Access Gap
A Third of Us draws attention to the imbalance between the number of people without Gospel access and the missionary resources devoted to reaching them.
While billions remain unreached, the movement reports that less than three percent of missionaries serve among these populations. Far more Christian workers serve in areas where churches and Christian communities are already established.
For A Third of Us, this represents an important challenge for the Church. If every person should have an opportunity to hear about Jesus, greater awareness and attention must be given to communities where that opportunity is still rare.
The movement encourages Christians, churches, and mission organizations to consider where Gospel access remains limited and how their prayers, resources, relationships, and missionary efforts might help close that gap.
Awareness Comes First
One of the greatest obstacles facing unreached people is surprisingly simple: many Christians do not know how many people still lack access to the Gospel.
A Third of Us believes awareness can become the beginning of meaningful action.
When believers learn about unreached people groups, they can begin praying for them. Churches can teach about them. Missionaries can consider serving among them. Organizations can direct resources toward them, and ordinary Christians can introduce others to a need they may never have encountered before.
Not everyone will become a missionary, but everyone can help make the need visible.
Three Lines
At the center of the movement is a simple visual symbol: three lines.
Those lines represent the third of humanity still waiting for meaningful access to the Gospel. Drawing or sharing them creates an opportunity to start a conversation about people who are often invisible within discussions about global Christianity.
The simplicity is intentional. Someone sees the lines, asks what they mean, and a conversation begins.
Through that small interaction, another person learns that billions of people may live their entire lives without encountering the message of Jesus.
Our Mission
A Third of Us seeks to awaken Christians to the reality of unreached people and inspire the global Church to help bring the Gospel where access remains limited.
The movement turns a massive global challenge into something Christians can understand, remember, and share. Through education, prayer, advocacy, conversations, and greater missions involvement, it encourages believers to make the unreached a visible part of the Church's Great Commission focus.
At the heart of A Third of Us is a simple conviction: billions of people are still waiting for an opportunity to hear about Jesus—and awareness is one of the first steps toward reaching them.
