About ABWE

ABWE is a Baptist missions organization that equips local churches to send missionaries and establish healthy, multiplying churches around the world.

Since 1927, ABWE has grown to approximately 1,000 missionaries serving in more than 90 countries alongside hundreds of partner churches and thousands of supporting congregations.

Rooted in Scripture and the Gospel, ABWE prepares missionaries for evangelism, discipleship, church planting, leadership development, and cross-cultural ministry.

Its goal goes beyond sending missionaries—it seeks to develop disciples who make disciples, leaders who train leaders, and churches that plant churches.

Biblical Missionary Training

ABWE provides extensive biblical, theological, and practical preparation for missionaries entering the field.

Scripture remains central to this training, while missionaries also learn how to navigate the realities of serving across different cultures.

Medical care, education, and other practical ministries can serve as bridges for relationships and evangelism.

Ultimately, these ministries support ABWE's larger purpose of making disciples and establishing healthy local churches.

Committed to the Local Church

ABWE believes the local church is God's primary instrument for fulfilling the Great Commission.

It partners with churches to identify, prepare, send, and support missionaries while developing qualified local leaders in the communities where missionaries serve.

The long-term goal is to establish self-supporting, self-governing, and multiplying churches.

As these churches mature, ABWE desires to see them become missionary-sending churches themselves.

Developing National Leaders

A major part of ABWE's strategy is partnering with indigenous Christian leaders who understand their own languages, cultures, and communities.

Missionaries work alongside these leaders with the goal of strengthening locally led churches and ministries.

ABWE ultimately envisions every nation becoming a sending nation, creating multiplying movements that carry the Gospel into new communities and cultures.

A Global Family of Ministries

ABWE carries out its mission through three key ministries.

ABWE GO sends missionaries around the world for evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and leadership development.

Live Global connects North American churches with national-led ministries around the world, strengthening local Christian leaders already serving within their cultures.

EveryEthne equips North American churches to reach culturally diverse communities and plant churches across cultural boundaries closer to home.

The Goal of Multiplication

Across its ministries, ABWE remains focused on healthy churches and Gospel multiplication.

Its vision is to see local churches send missionaries who make disciples, develop leaders, establish churches, and equip those churches to carry the Gospel to even more people and nations.
