About Accordance Bible Software

If you've ever wanted to go deeper into the Bible but felt overwhelmed by all the commentaries, dictionaries, Greek and Hebrew tools, and other resources available, Accordance Bible Software was built with you in mind.

For more than 30 years, Accordance has helped pastors, students, professors, scholars, and everyday Christians dig deeper into God's Word.

What began primarily as a powerful tool for biblical scholars has grown into a complete Bible study platform that can serve you whether you're preparing a sermon, studying Greek and Hebrew, researching a difficult passage, or simply trying to better understand what you're reading.

And that's really what Accordance is about: helping you spend less time figuring out how to study and more time actually studying Scripture.

Go as Deep as You Want

You don't have to be a biblical scholar to use Accordance.

If you simply want to read the Bible alongside a commentary, dictionary, or study resource, you can do that.

But when you're ready to dig deeper, Accordance gives you access to some remarkably powerful research tools.

You can explore individual words, compare translations, study grammatical structures, search Greek and Hebrew texts, examine how words are used throughout Scripture, and bring multiple biblical resources together in one workspace.

That flexibility means Accordance can grow alongside you.

You might begin by using it for personal Bible study and later find yourself exploring the original languages, preparing lessons, researching theology, or working through passages in ways you never could before.

Learning Accordance

Powerful software isn't very helpful if you don't know how to use it, so Accordance puts a lot of effort into helping you learn.

More than 75 interactive tutorials are built directly into the program.

They walk you through tasks step by step, starting with basics like opening your library and searching for words before moving into more advanced biblical research.

And if you get stuck, you don't have to figure everything out yourself.

Accordance provides detailed Help files, a Support Center filled with articles and videos, and a community where users can ask questions, report issues, suggest resources, and learn from one another.

Learn Alongside the Experts

Sometimes the easiest way to learn Bible software is simply watching someone use it.

That's why Accordance offers live online training sessions where users can interact with members of the Accordance team, see features demonstrated, and ask questions along the way.

There's also a growing collection of videos covering webinars, product demonstrations, quick tips, and interviews with biblical scholars who use Accordance themselves.

So whether you're opening Accordance for the first time or you've been using it for years, there's always an opportunity to discover something new.

Where Accordance Began

The story of Accordance actually goes back to the early days of Bible software.

In 1988, developer Roy Brown created ThePerfectWord, one of the first Bible programs available for Macintosh computers.

After that program was eventually acquired and renamed MacBible, Brown noticed something was still missing.

There were useful Bible programs available, but pastors and scholars who wanted to seriously study the original Greek and Hebrew texts needed something more powerful.

So he began building it.

Accordance 1.0 launched in February 1994 with advanced tools for grammatical and original-language study.

Developed with the scholarly market in mind and in cooperation with The GRAMCORD Institute, it quickly became known for combining serious research capabilities with an unusually approachable interface.

From Scholars to Everyday Bible Readers

Accordance may have started with scholars, but it didn't stay there.

Over the years, the platform expanded to serve pastors, ministry leaders, seminary students, professors, teachers, and Christians who simply want to understand their Bibles better.

That history still shapes Accordance today.

The software doesn't force you to choose between simplicity and depth.

You can keep things straightforward when that's all you need, while knowing advanced research tools are waiting whenever you're ready to go further.

And perhaps that's the best way to understand Accordance.

It's not about making Bible study more complicated.

It's about giving you the tools to ask deeper questions, find meaningful answers, and spend more time discovering what's already there in God's Word.
