## About Advancing Native Missions

There are still people around the world who have little or no opportunity to hear about Jesus.

[Advancing Native Missions](https://advancingnativemissions.com/?ref=ministryy.com) (ANM) exists to help change that but its approach to global missions looks a little different.

Instead of primarily sending missionaries from the United States into other countries, ANM partners with native missionaries, Christians already living and serving within their own countries, cultures, and communities.

These missionaries already know the language.

They understand local traditions and challenges.

They have relationships within their communities.

And in places where foreign missionaries may have difficulty entering, local Christians are already there.

ANM comes alongside them so they can take the Gospel even further.

## Our Mission

Advancing Native Missions encourages, equips, and advocates for native missionaries around the world as they introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to unreached and unevangelized people where they live.

Everything begins with a simple conviction: everyone needs to know that God loves them.

ANM-supported missionaries share that message through evangelism and church planting, but their work often extends into the everyday needs of their communities.

They may care for children and families, serve people experiencing hardship, strengthen communities, and demonstrate Christ's love through practical ministry.

Today, ANM works in more than 100 countries, including places that can be difficult for foreign missionaries to access.

## Why Native Missions?

Cross-cultural missions can involve significant barriers.

Foreign missionaries may spend years learning a new language and culture, raising financial support, and navigating visas or government restrictions.

Native missionaries begin from a different position.

They're already home.

They understand how people communicate, what their neighbors believe, and how their culture works.

They can often live and minister with considerably less financial support than a foreign missionary would require.

This makes native missions an opportunity to invest directly in local Christian leadership and help ministries become increasingly sustainable within their own communities.

Rather than replacing local believers, ANM strengthens the Christians God has already raised up to reach their neighbors.

## From One Room to a Global Mission

ANM's story began in the early 1990s when Benjamin "Bo" Barredo recognized the growing potential of native Christian movements around the world.

He saw that American Christians could make a tremendous difference by partnering with believers who were already reaching their own nations.

In 1992, Bo and a small group of Christians founded Advancing Native Missions.

The organization officially began operating from a one-room office in Charlottesville, Virginia, on October 20 of that year.

From those small beginnings, the ministry expanded across the world.

ANM reports supporting native missionaries serving in more than 100 countries and helping plant more than 61,000 churches.

## Our Vision

ANM's vision comes from Matthew 24:14 and looks toward a day when people everywhere have heard the good news of Jesus Christ.

That vision isn't simply about sending more missionaries.

It's about multiplication.

Local Christians reach their neighbors.

Leaders are developed. Churches are planted.

Those churches reach new communities, and new believers become missionaries themselves.

At the heart of Advancing Native Missions is the belief that some of the people best equipped to reach the nations are already there and by encouraging and equipping them, the Gospel can continue moving into places where Jesus is still largely unknown.
