# About Africa New Life Ministries

What does it look like to help a child not only get through today, but actually begin dreaming about tomorrow?

That's a question [Africa New Life Ministries](https://www.africanewlife.org/?ref=ministryy.com) has been answering in Rwanda since 2001.

Africa New Life is a Rwandan-founded and led Christian ministry that seeks to transform lives and communities by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in both word and deed. Its approach brings together education, Christian discipleship, church planting, healthcare, leadership development, and practical care for children and families.

At the center of it all is a desire to help people know the hope found in Jesus while giving them opportunities to build healthier, more sustainable futures.

## Born from Rwanda's Story

Africa New Life was founded by Dr. Charles and Florence Mugisha in response to the lasting devastation of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

In 2001, they began with a simple goal: help children attend school while showing them the love and hope of Christ.

The ministry's first sponsorship efforts supported just 30 children.

Since then, Africa New Life reports that more than 19,000 students have been supported through educational sponsorship. What began as an effort to help children attend school has grown into a much broader ministry serving students, families, churches, pastors, women, and communities throughout Rwanda.

## Education That Opens the Future

Education remains at the heart of Africa New Life's approach to breaking cycles of poverty.

Through student sponsorship, schools, academic support, vocational opportunities, and university scholarships, the ministry helps young people gain access to education and the resources they need to succeed.

But Africa New Life believes a child needs more than an education.

Its model focuses on the whole child—combining learning with spiritual development, healthcare, nutritious food, supportive relationships, and investment in the surrounding community.

The goal isn't simply to help a student graduate.

It's to give that student the opportunity to dream about what their life could become.

## Growing Faith

The Gospel isn't an addition to Africa New Life's humanitarian work. It's central to why the ministry exists.

Africa New Life plants New Life Bible Churches in the communities it serves. These churches provide places where students, families, and other community members can hear the Gospel, grow as disciples, worship together, and experience Christian community.

The ministry also operates Africa College of Theology, which equips pastors and ministry leaders with biblical and theological training.

In this way, Africa New Life seeks to develop Christian leaders who can continue serving Rwanda for generations.

## Strengthening Families and Communities

Poverty affects much more than a child's ability to attend school, so Africa New Life's work reaches beyond the classroom.

Its programs include healthcare, food assistance, women's development initiatives, vocational training, and other forms of community development.

Women's programs, for example, combine practical vocational and entrepreneurial training with Christian discipleship, helping women develop skills they can use to provide for themselves and their families.

Healthcare initiatives address another essential part of long-term flourishing: giving children and families opportunities to live healthier lives.

## The Gospel in Word and Deed

Africa New Life describes its approach as sharing the Gospel with two hands: **the hand of compassion and the hand of evangelism.**

Those two ideas are meant to remain together.

A student receives an education while being discipled. A family receives practical care while encountering a local church. A woman develops vocational skills while growing spiritually. A pastor receives training so he can better serve his congregation and community.

What began with a small group of children has become a ministry investing in entire communities.

**At the heart of Africa New Life is the belief that lasting transformation involves the whole person—helping people know Jesus, receive an education, become healthier, strengthen their families, and gain the opportunity to build a hopeful future.**
