# About Aid for Women

An unexpected pregnancy can bring a lot of questions all at once.

Where do I go? What are my options? How will I afford this? What will happen with school or work? What if I don't have somewhere safe to live?

[Aid for Women](https://aidforwomen.org/?ref=ministryy.com) exists to make sure women don't have to work through those questions alone.

Aid for Women is a Christian pregnancy care organization serving women throughout Illinois with free pregnancy services, ongoing support, practical resources, and maternity housing. Its approach goes beyond helping someone during the first few days of an unexpected pregnancy. The organization seeks to walk alongside women throughout pregnancy and into motherhood as they build greater confidence, stability, and hope for the future.

## A Safe Place to Start

Sometimes the first thing a woman needs is simply a safe place to figure out what's happening.

Aid for Women provides free, confidential medical-grade pregnancy testing and limited obstetrical ultrasounds for qualifying clients.

Women can also meet privately with nurses and advocates who take time to understand their individual circumstances, answer questions, and provide information about pregnancy options.

Aid for Women does not provide or refer for abortions. Instead, its team provides information and support intended to help women understand their pregnancies and consider their next steps.

## Support Beyond the Appointment

Aid for Women recognizes that the challenges surrounding pregnancy rarely disappear after one appointment.

A woman may be worried about housing, employment, healthcare, finances, relationships, parenting, or simply whether she has enough support around her.

That's why its services extend beyond pregnancy testing and ultrasounds.

Through partnerships and referrals, women can be connected with resources involving healthcare, housing, nutrition, employment, and emotional or relationship needs.

Clients can also participate in pregnancy and parenting classes, one-on-one mentoring, groups for expectant mothers, men's support programs, and a baby boutique.

The goal is to help women prepare not only for the birth of a child, but for the life that comes afterward.

## A Place to Call Home

For some expectant mothers, the most immediate concern is having somewhere safe to live.

Aid for Women operates two maternity homes: Heather's House and Monica's House.

Heather's House provides a supportive home for pregnant women, new mothers, and their children. Residents can receive nutritious food, maternity and infant supplies, transportation assistance, mentoring, parenting education, life-skills training, and support as they pursue educational and employment goals.

Monica's House provides transitional housing for mothers moving toward greater independence while attending school or working.

Together, the homes create something these women may desperately need: time and stability to begin building their next chapter.

## Helping Women Move Forward

Aid for Women ultimately wants women to recognize that an unexpected pregnancy doesn't mean they have to abandon their future.

A woman may still have educational goals she wants to pursue, a career she wants to build, relationships she wants to strengthen, and dreams she hasn't given up on.

Practical assistance can help make those possibilities feel reachable again.

That's why Aid for Women combines immediate pregnancy services with longer-term relationships, education, material assistance, referrals, and housing.

## Hope for the Next Chapter

At its heart, Aid for Women is about walking alongside women during a season when life may feel uncertain.

Sometimes that means providing a pregnancy test. Sometimes it's sitting down with someone who needs to talk. Sometimes it's finding healthcare or employment resources. And sometimes it's giving a mother and her child a safe place to call home.

Through compassionate care, practical assistance, mentoring, and ongoing support, Aid for Women seeks to help women facing pregnancy challenges move forward with greater confidence, stability, and hope for both themselves and their children.
