About Alisa Childers

What happens when the Christian beliefs you've held for most of your life suddenly don't feel as certain as they once did?

For Alisa Childers, that question became deeply personal.

Alisa Childers is a Christian author, speaker, podcaster, and apologist whose ministry helps Christians understand what they believe, examine difficult questions, and distinguish historic Christianity from ideas that may use Christian language while changing foundational Christian beliefs.

Her work focuses especially on apologetics, theology, culture, worship, progressive Christianity, and faith deconstruction.

But her interest in these subjects didn't begin simply as an academic exercise.

It grew out of her own season of serious doubt.

From Doubt to a Deeper Faith

Alisa grew up in a Christian home and eventually became part of the Dove Award-winning Christian music group ZOEgirl.

Christianity had been part of her life for years.

Then, in her mid-thirties, she entered a period in which some of her foundational beliefs about Christianity were challenged. Questions she hadn't previously considered began forcing her to examine whether the faith she had always believed could actually withstand serious scrutiny.

Instead of ignoring those questions, Alisa began investigating them.

She took seminary classes, studied theology and apologetics, explored the historical foundations of Christianity, and examined arguments both for and against the beliefs she had grown up with.

She describes that journey as moving from unreasoned doubt toward a rational and informed Christian faith.

Today, much of her ministry is about helping others make that same kind of investigation.

Helping Christians Navigate Difficult Questions

Is the Bible trustworthy?

Who is Jesus? Can Christianity withstand intellectual objections? What separates historic Christian teaching from progressive Christianity? What should someone do when they begin questioning beliefs they've held for years?

These are the kinds of conversations Alisa regularly explores.

Her goal isn't to teach Christians that questions are dangerous.

Instead, she encourages people to examine difficult questions while remaining grounded in Scripture and the historic doctrines of Christianity.

Her stated beliefs include the inspiration and authority of Scripture, the Trinity, the deity, death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, salvation through Christ, and other central teachings of historic Christianity.

Understanding Progressive Christianity

One of the most recognizable parts of Alisa's work has been her examination of progressive Christianity.

Her book Another Gospel? grew directly from her own experience of having long-held Christian beliefs challenged. It explores how progressive Christian ideas can differ from historic Christian doctrine and how Christians can evaluate those differences.

She has continued exploring related cultural and theological questions through books including Live Your Truth and Other Lies and, with Tim Barnett, The Deconstruction of Christianity.

A recurring theme runs through this work: Christians should learn to recognize ideas that sound appealing while asking whether those ideas actually agree with Scripture.

The Alisa Childers Podcast

The Alisa Childers Podcast brings these conversations into an accessible format.

Episodes explore theology, apologetics, biblical interpretation, cultural issues, deconstruction, worldview questions, and challenges facing Christians today.

The stated purpose of the podcast is to equip Christians to understand the core beliefs of historic Christianity, recognize counterfeits, and communicate the Gospel with clarity, kindness, and truth.

Through the podcast, books, speaking events, articles, videos, and recommended resources, Alisa seeks to make deeper theological and apologetic conversations approachable for everyday Christians.

A Faith That Can Handle Questions

Alisa's own experience with doubt continues to shape the heart of her work.

She knows what it's like to encounter questions that make familiar beliefs suddenly feel uncertain. Rather than presenting Christianity as something that survives only when difficult questions are avoided, her ministry encourages Christians to investigate those questions seriously.

At the heart of Alisa Childers' ministry is a desire to help Christians move beyond simply inheriting their beliefs—to know what they believe, understand why they believe it, recognize challenges to historic Christianity, and develop a thoughtful faith centered on Jesus and grounded in Scripture.
