About American Heritage Girls

Girls are growing up in a world constantly telling them who they're supposed to be.

American Heritage Girls wants them to hear something deeper:

Who has God created you to become?

American Heritage Girls is a Christ-centered character and leadership development ministry for girls ages 5 to 18. Through local Troops, girls have opportunities to grow in their relationship with Christ while building friendships, serving their communities, learning practical skills, and discovering the confidence that comes from trying something new.

One weekend might mean serving families in the community.

Another might mean putting up a tent, learning first aid, earning a badge, or stepping into a leadership role for the first time.

Through all of it, AHG is working toward the same mission: building women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country.

It Started Around a Kitchen Table

American Heritage Girls began in 1995 when a group of parents near Cincinnati, Ohio, started talking about what they wanted for their daughters.

They were looking for something similar to the traditional scouting experience they valued, but they wanted Christ to remain at the center of it.

Those conversations around a kitchen table became something bigger.

The first AHG Troop brought together a small group of fourth- and fifth-grade girls. As other families heard about the new Christ-centered program, additional Troops began forming.

What started with 10 Troops and around 100 members eventually grew into a nationwide ministry with Troops across all 50 states.

Faith Becomes Part of the Adventure

AHG doesn't treat faith as something separate from the rest of the experience.

Girls are encouraged to see their relationship with Christ as something that shapes how they live.

Prayer and biblical teaching become part of Troop life. Girls can participate in Faith Awards that encourage them to understand Scripture more deeply while learning what it means to follow Jesus in everyday situations.

Then they get opportunities to put that faith into practice.

Serving someone in need becomes more than completing a requirement.

It's an opportunity to develop the heart of a servant.

Learning by Actually Doing

A lot of growing up happens when someone gives you the chance to try.

AHG gives girls plenty of those chances.

Through its badge program and outdoor experiences, girls can discover interests while developing practical skills. They might find themselves camping with their Troop, exploring nature, learning how to handle an emergency, developing a creative skill, or tackling something they weren't sure they could do.

As girls get older, the opportunities grow with them.

They begin taking greater responsibility and stepping into leadership rather than always waiting for adults to lead.

The experience gradually shifts from simply participating to learning how to serve others well.

Growing Up Together

One of the distinctive parts of AHG is its multi-age Troop structure.

A five-year-old Pathfinder can belong to the same Troop as a seventeen-year-old Patriot.

That creates opportunities for younger girls to look up to those ahead of them while older girls learn what it means to encourage and lead those coming behind them.

Parents are also encouraged to remain involved.

Instead of creating an experience completely separated from family life, AHG wants its program to strengthen the relationships surrounding each girl.

Local churches and Christian organizations can become part of that environment by chartering Troops and providing places where girls can be discipled within their own communities.

Becoming a Woman of Integrity

Eventually, every girl ages out of the program.

The badges stay behind. Troop meetings end. Camping trips become memories.

But AHG hopes something much more important goes with her.

A stronger relationship with Christ.

The confidence to lead when leadership is needed.

A willingness to serve when someone else needs help.

And a growing understanding that her worth isn't determined by everything the world tells her she needs to become.

It's rooted in who she is in Christ.

At the heart of American Heritage Girls is a desire to give girls a place where faith and adventure can grow together—where they can build friendships, discover what they're capable of, learn to serve others, deepen their relationship with Jesus, and gradually become the women of integrity God created them to be.
