About Answers in Genesis
Can you trust the Bible when it talks about the beginning of the world?
For Answers in Genesis, that question reaches much further than the creation debate.
If Christians believe Scripture is God's Word, the ministry argues, then its authority shouldn't begin somewhere in the middle. It begins with the very first verse.
Answers in Genesis is a Christian apologetics ministry dedicated to defending the authority of Scripture and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is particularly known for its young-earth creationist understanding of Genesis and for challenging evolutionary explanations of human and cosmic origins.
But AiG doesn't see creation as an isolated theological debate.
It sees Genesis as the beginning of the story that eventually leads to Jesus.
Starting With Genesis
Open the Bible and you don't begin with Jesus' birth.
You begin with creation.
Then comes humanity's rebellion against God and the entrance of sin into the world. From there, the biblical story gradually unfolds toward God's plan of redemption through Christ.
Answers in Genesis believes understanding that foundation matters.
The ministry interprets the creation account in Genesis as straightforward history. It teaches that God created everything in six ordinary days, that Adam and Eve were real historical people, and that Noah's Flood was a historical global catastrophe.
AiG also teaches a recent creation, rejecting attempts to incorporate millions of years or evolutionary development into its interpretation of Genesis.
That position shapes much of its apologetics.
Asking Questions About Science
What about dinosaurs?
How old is the earth? Where did fossils come from? How could Noah fit animals aboard the Ark? What does genetics tell us about humanity?
Those are exactly the kinds of questions Answers in Genesis wants Christians to investigate.
Its scientists, theologians, researchers, and writers produce articles, videos, books, curricula, lectures, and other resources exploring questions surrounding creation and biblical history.
The ministry approaches scientific evidence through its understanding of Scripture.
Rather than treating scientific interpretations as religiously neutral, AiG argues that everyone approaches evidence with underlying assumptions about the past.
For AiG, Scripture provides the historical framework through which that evidence should ultimately be interpreted.
Walking Through Biblical History
Answers in Genesis has also taken apologetics far beyond books and articles.
In 2007, it opened the Creation Museum in northern Kentucky.
Visitors walk through exhibits presenting biblical history from creation and the fall through the Flood, Babel, and ultimately the Gospel. Dinosaurs, fossils, botanical gardens, a planetarium, and other experiences are used to bring those discussions into a physical environment.
Then AiG went considerably bigger.
In 2016, Ark Encounter opened in Williamstown, Kentucky.
Its centerpiece is a full-size reconstruction of Noah's Ark built according to the biblical dimensions.
Instead of simply reading an argument about whether Noah could have housed animals aboard the Ark, visitors can walk through an enormous representation of what AiG believes such a vessel could have looked like.
For the ministry, both attractions have an evangelistic purpose.
The exhibits may begin with creation or Noah.
But they're designed to eventually point visitors toward Christ.
Equipping the Next Generation
AiG is also deeply concerned about what younger Christians are being taught.
That's why education has become a significant part of the ministry.
Parents, churches, Christian schools, and homeschool families can use AiG curricula and educational materials to teach science and biblical history from the ministry's young-earth creationist perspective.
Children might first encounter those ideas through a Vacation Bible School lesson.
Later, they can explore more complicated questions through books, articles, videos, conferences, or educational programs.
The goal is to prepare Christians before difficult questions arrive.
Rather than telling young people simply to believe, AiG wants them equipped to explain why they believe the Bible can be trusted.
Creation Ultimately Points to the Gospel
Despite its name, Answers in Genesis doesn't want the conversation to end in Genesis.
Its statement of faith connects creation directly with humanity's need for salvation.
God created a good world. Humanity rebelled against Him. Sin brought judgment and death. And Jesus Christ came to provide salvation through His death and bodily resurrection.
That's why AiG considers creation apologetics part of evangelism.
Winning an argument about the age of the earth isn't the ultimate goal.
Pointing people toward Christ is.
At the heart of Answers in Genesis is the conviction that Christians can trust God's Word from its opening account of creation to its message of redemption in Jesus Christ—and that learning to defend that biblical foundation can help believers confidently explain the Gospel in a culture filled with questions about where we came from, why the world is broken, and why we need a Savior.
