# About Bella Health + Wellness

A medical appointment can feel surprisingly impersonal.

You enter a clinical room, explain what's wrong, receive a diagnosis or prescription, and leave. The problem may have been addressed medically, yet you can still walk away feeling as though nobody really saw you.

Bella Health + Wellness was created around a different vision of healthcare.

This Catholic nonprofit medical practice believes good medicine should recognize the whole person standing in the examination room. Physical health matters enormously, but so do dignity, relationships, emotional well-being, and spiritual life. Bella brings those pieces together through professional medical care shaped by the conviction that every human life has immeasurable worth.

## The Idea Began Far From Colorado

The inspiration for Bella came while mother and daughter nurse practitioners Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett were serving on a medical mission in the high Andes Mountains of Peru.

Mission work made human need impossible to ignore.

Yet when they returned to healthcare in the United States, they began recognizing another kind of need.

Patients might have access to sophisticated medicine while still feeling unseen or spiritually empty. In obstetrics and gynecology especially, Dede and Abby struggled to find comprehensive healthcare that aligned with their Catholic convictions about human life.

Rather than accepting that tension as inevitable, they decided to build something different.

In December 2014, Bella Natural Women's Care opened in Englewood, Colorado.

The original vision was ambitious from the beginning: create a comprehensive, life-affirming Catholic healthcare model that could eventually be replicated elsewhere.

## Dignity Changes the Experience of Medicine

Bella's philosophy becomes visible before a provider begins examining a patient.

The clinic intentionally uses softer lighting and warm furnishings. Cloth replaces disposable paper where possible, and patients are given robes instead of traditional hospital gowns.

Those details might seem small.

Bella believes they're part of something larger.

A patient isn't simply a medical condition that needs treatment. They're a person entering an environment at a moment when they may feel uncomfortable, frightened, uncertain, or vulnerable.

Creating a beautiful environment communicates something before anyone says it aloud:

You matter here.

That same philosophy carries into the medical relationship. Bella emphasizes listening to patients and understanding what's happening beneath symptoms rather than treating healthcare like an assembly line.

## Women's Healthcare That Tries to Restore

Women's health has remained one of Bella's defining areas.

The practice provides comprehensive gynecologic and obstetric care while taking a restorative approach to reproductive health.

That distinction becomes especially visible when women are dealing with painful periods, hormonal abnormalities, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, or infertility.

Bella's providers often focus on investigating underlying causes rather than simply suppressing symptoms.

Its fertility care includes NaProTechnology and natural fertility education, allowing physicians to work with a woman's reproductive cycle while identifying medical problems that may be interfering with fertility.

That approach reflects the clinic's broader philosophy.

The body isn't treated as an obstacle that needs to be overridden.

It's something worth understanding.

## Walking With a Family Through Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings Bella's medical and spiritual convictions together particularly clearly.

The clinic provides prenatal and obstetric care through a team that includes physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, and nurses.

Modern medicine remains central.

Patients receive ultrasounds, laboratory testing, prenatal monitoring, and evidence-based medical care throughout pregnancy.

At the same time, Bella approaches pregnancy with profound respect for both mother and unborn child.

Its providers describe pregnancy and childbirth as naturally beautiful processes while recognizing that pregnancy can also bring uncertainty, complications, and difficult decisions.

Care continues after delivery as mothers navigate physical recovery, breastfeeding, bonding, hormonal changes, and the emotional transition into life with a newborn.

The relationship isn't supposed to end once the baby arrives.

## From Women's Care to the Whole Family

Something interesting happened as Bella grew.

The original women's health practice began receiving requests to care for husbands and children too.

Families wanted the same kind of medicine.

In 2016, Bella expanded into family medicine and primary care. The organization eventually became Bella Health + Wellness in 2020, reflecting its transition from a women's clinic into a multi-specialty medical practice serving people across the lifespan.

Today, its continuum includes OB-GYN care alongside family medicine, pediatrics, and wellness.

A woman can receive prenatal care and later bring her child into the same medical community.

Her husband can establish primary care there.

Healthcare begins to feel less like a series of disconnected appointments and more like a relationship with a practice that knows the family.

## Faith Has a Place in the Exam Room

Bella doesn't hide its Christian identity behind its medical credentials.

Its Catholic faith shapes how it understands the person being treated.

Every human life is considered worthy of protection from conception through natural death. Bella also believes healthcare professionals should be able to practice excellent medicine without violating deeply held convictions about human dignity.

But faith isn't intended to replace medicine.

Bella's vision is to bring the two together.

Providers use their professional training to diagnose and treat patients while approaching that work through a Christian understanding of the human person.

Prayer has a place here.

So does science.

Bella sees no reason the two must become competitors.

## Making People Whole

Bella frequently returns to one phrase when explaining its mission:

body, mind, and soul.

That may be the simplest way to understand what the organization is trying to reclaim.

Modern medicine can become exceptionally good at treating individual parts of the body while gradually losing sight of the person those parts belong to.

Bella wants medicine to feel human again.

That means pursuing excellent clinical outcomes while remembering the frightened mother waiting for an ultrasound, the couple carrying the disappointment of infertility, the teenager trying to understand her changing body, or the older patient entering a new season of health.

Each enters with a different story.

Bella believes each deserves to be encountered with dignity.

At the heart of Bella Health + Wellness is the conviction that medicine can be both scientifically excellent and deeply human. By caring for people across the lifespan while honoring the dignity of every life, Bella treats healthcare as more than the management of symptoms. It becomes an opportunity to listen, heal, accompany, and serve—bringing professional medicine together with a Catholic vision of caring for the whole person: body, mind, and soul.
