# About Bible2School

The school bell rings.

Most children move on to lunch or recess.

But for one group, something different happens.

With their parents' permission, they leave school property with trained volunteers and head to a nearby church or partner location.

For the next 45 minutes or so, they sing.

They hear a Bible story.

They pray.

They sit in a small group with an adult who knows their name and gives them room to ask questions about God, life, and what they're learning.

Then they return to school and continue their day.

That's Bible2School.

The ministry has found a way to bring biblical instruction into the rhythm of a public-school student's week without conducting that instruction on public-school property.

## The Opportunity Has Been There for Generations

The concept is known as Released Time Religious Instruction.

Under released-time programs, parents can choose to have their children released from public school during part of the school day for religious education.

Bible2School operates its programs around three important boundaries.

Parents must give permission.

The Bible instruction takes place away from public-school property.

Taxpayer funds aren't used to provide the religious instruction.

That means Bible2School isn't trying to turn the public-school classroom into a Sunday school classroom.

The child leaves campus for the program.

Understanding that distinction is essential to understanding the ministry.

## It Started With a Pennsylvania Community

Bible2School traces its story to 1979.

A group of pastors known as the Manheim Ministerium decided to make use of Pennsylvania's released-time provisions.

More than 100 fifth-graders from seven elementary schools in the Manheim Central School District began participating in weekly Bible classes.

Where a church was close enough, children walked.

Where distance made that impractical, transportation was provided.

A local opportunity gradually developed into something much larger.

More than 45 years later, Bible2School is helping other communities learn how to build programs of their own.

## Don't Just Give Children Another Classroom

Getting children to a Bible lesson is one thing.

Keeping them interested is another.

Bible2School's curriculum is intentionally designed for children rather than simply adapting adult teaching into shorter sermons.

A typical gathering combines large-group teaching with worship, Scripture, prayer, activities, and small-group conversation.

The large-group leader introduces the biblical lesson.

Then students move into smaller groups where the teaching becomes personal.

Instead of ending with children merely remembering what happened to a biblical character, the curriculum gives them a question to think about.

A story involving forgiveness can lead into a conversation about forgiving someone in their own life.

A lesson about trusting God can become a discussion about what trust looks like when they're afraid.

Biblical truth moves toward everyday experience.

## Give Children an Adult Who Will Listen

The small groups are especially important to Bible2School.

The ministry believes the Gospel is communicated powerfully through relationships, so volunteers aren't present merely to manage the room.

They're mentors.

That changes the atmosphere.

A child dealing with something difficult at home may need more than the correct answer on a worksheet.

They may need an adult willing to listen.

Another child may have heard something about Christianity from friends or social media and finally has somewhere to ask about it.

Others may simply be trying to understand who Jesus is.

The small group gives those questions somewhere to go.

The Bible lesson provides truth.

The relationship creates space to process it.

## Reach the Child Who Doesn't Attend Church

This may be where Bible2School's model becomes most significant.

A church's children's ministry normally depends on families coming through the church doors.

Bible2School reverses the direction.

The ministry meets children within the normal geography and schedule of their school day, then—with parental permission—brings them to an off-campus location for Bible teaching.

That can include children whose families aren't regularly involved with a church.

For them, familiar biblical stories may not actually be familiar.

Noah, Moses, David, the apostles, the cross, the resurrection—ideas many Christians learned early in childhood may be completely new.

Bible2School gives those children a place to begin.

## Help a Community Build Its Own Program

Bible2School doesn't intend to personally operate every future class from one central headquarters.

Its expansion model equips local Christians to build programs within their own communities.

Through Bible2School Memberships, organizers receive a structured process for launching a program along with curriculum, training, coaching, staff support, a customizable website, and hundreds of practical resources.

The local community supplies the people.

Parents invite families.

Churches can provide space.

Volunteers teach, mentor, transport, organize, and support.

Bible2School supplies a framework developed through decades of experience.

That creates the possibility for multiplication.

Instead of one ministry team traveling from state to state teaching every class, communities learn how to serve their own public-school children.

## Keep Building as the Children Grow

The curriculum also grows with students.

Second-grade material introduces foundational truths about God.

Third graders move through an overview of the Bible's story.

Fourth-grade lessons emphasize discipleship and identity in Christ.

Fifth graders study foundations of faith through Hebrews 11.

The sixth-grade curriculum continues into Hebrews 12 and considers what living for Jesus looks like across everyday life.

The intention isn't simply to give a child one memorable Bible lesson.

It's to build foundations over time.

A second grader who begins asking questions about God can continue learning as those questions become more mature.

## Send Them Back With Hope

Eventually the program ends.

The children return to school.

The volunteer stays behind.

That's where the name Bible2School becomes especially meaningful.

The Bible isn't physically being taught inside the public-school classroom.

But the child who has just encountered biblical truth walks back into that environment.

They carry what they learned with them.

Perhaps they understand forgiveness differently.

Maybe they begin praying.

They might recognize their value through what they've learned about Christ.

Some will start asking deeper questions.

Others may eventually become involved in a local church with their families.

Bible2School can't determine where every child's story goes from there.

It can make sure more children have an opportunity for that story to begin.

At the heart of Bible2School is the conviction that children attending public school should have an opportunity to encounter biblical truth and discover their value in Christ. By using legally recognized released time, partnering with parents and local communities, training volunteers, and surrounding engaging Bible lessons with small-group mentorship, Bible2School creates something unusual in the middle of an ordinary school day—a place where children can step away, open God's Word, ask honest questions, encounter Jesus, and return to school carrying what they've learned with them.
