# About Blessings International

A doctor can have the skills to treat a patient.

A missionary can travel thousands of miles to reach an isolated community.

A clinic can have nurses ready to serve.

But none of that changes the fact that medicine has to be there when the patient arrives.

Antibiotics.

Blood-pressure medication.

Vitamins.

Wound-care supplies.

Treatments for parasites and malaria.

Basic medicines that are easy to take for granted in places where pharmacies are nearby can become precious resources somewhere access to healthcare is limited.

Blessings International exists in that gap.

Its ministry isn't usually the person standing in front of the patient.

It equips the person who is.

## It Began With One Mission Trip

The story starts in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In 1980, a men's prayer group at a local church was preparing for a mission outreach to Guatemala.

Dr. Harold Harder was part of that group.

He wasn't simply another volunteer.

Harder was a pharmacologist and medical school professor, which made him a natural choice to serve as the team's acting pharmacist.

His assignment was straightforward but essential:

Find medicine.

Guatemala was experiencing civil war, and the team planned to minister among Mayan people facing both physical and spiritual needs.

Harold and his wife, Linda, believed God was calling them to go.

He began securing donated pharmaceuticals for the trip.

Then something happened after they returned.

The need didn't end.

Other Christian medical teams were going to other communities and encountering the same problem.

They needed medicine too.

The Harders realized the work they had done for one mission team could become a ministry serving many.

In July 1981, Blessings International was incorporated.

## Become the Pharmacy Behind the Mission

That original idea still explains Blessings remarkably well.

A medical mission team doesn't necessarily need another organization doing its job.

It needs someone making its job possible.

Blessings supplies pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and medical supplies to organizations providing healthcare in underserved communities.

Its partners can include short-term medical mission teams, long-term international clinics, hospitals, churches, nonprofit organizations, universities, disaster-relief teams, pregnancy resource centers, charitable pharmacies, and safety-net clinics in the United States.

Each partner may serve a very different population.

Blessings becomes part of the infrastructure behind them.

The ministry has grown into a specialized pharmaceutical operation with its own warehouse and repackaging facility.

Medicine comes in.

Orders are prepared.

Products are carefully handled and labeled.

Then those supplies begin another journey.

Eventually, something that passed through a warehouse in Oklahoma may end up in the hands of a healthcare worker serving a patient thousands of miles away.

## Make the Medicine Fit the Mission

Medical missions aren't identical.

A rural clinic treating chronic illnesses has different needs from a short-term surgical team.

A disaster-relief organization responding after an earthquake faces a different situation from a pregnancy resource center serving women in an American city.

Blessings therefore doesn't treat every mission as though it needs the same box.

Organizations can select medicines and supplies according to the people they actually expect to serve.

One especially practical service is medication repackaging.

Medicines can be prepared in smaller quantities and labeled for distribution, with labeling available in numerous languages.

That matters in the field.

A healthcare worker needs to know what they're giving.

The patient needs understandable instructions.

The team needs quantities appropriate for treatment.

Small logistical details become part of responsible medical care.

## Help a Limited Budget Reach More Patients

Medical ministries often operate under a frustrating reality.

They can see more need than they can afford to treat.

Every dollar spent obtaining medicine affects how many patients can ultimately receive care.

Blessings works to provide quality pharmaceuticals and supplies at affordable or subsidized costs.

Donations help make that possible.

Instead of simply giving every medicine directly to individual patients, Blessings can multiply its impact by strengthening organizations already positioned to provide care.

A gift can help lower the cost of supplies.

That allows a clinic or mission team to redirect limited resources toward serving more people.

The model is multiplication through partnership.

Blessings equips the caregiver.

The caregiver reaches the patient.

## Stay Ready When Everything Changes Overnight

Some medical needs can be planned months in advance.

Disasters cannot.

A hurricane hits.

An earthquake collapses buildings.

Floodwater enters a community.

War displaces families.

A disease outbreak overwhelms an already fragile healthcare system.

Suddenly, medicines that were routine yesterday become difficult to find today.

Blessings maintains an Emergency Disaster Relief program so it can help equip organizations responding to those situations.

Its support can include pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, vitamins, hygiene kits, and first-aid materials.

Financial gifts to the disaster fund can also subsidize supplies for responding teams.

The organization doesn't have to become the entire disaster response.

Its role is narrower and highly practical:

Make sure the people delivering medical care have something to deliver.

## Serve People Close to Home Too

The word "international" can make the ministry sound as though every box leaves the United States.

That isn't the case anymore.

Blessings also equips organizations serving vulnerable people within the U.S.

Free and charitable clinics may serve patients who cannot afford ordinary healthcare.

Charitable pharmacies help people access medications they otherwise might go without.

Pregnancy resource centers may need vitamins and other health-related supplies for the women they serve.

Domestic disaster teams encounter many of the same urgent medical problems as international responders.

The geography changes.

The principle doesn't.

Where access to medicine becomes a barrier to compassionate care, Blessings tries to help lower it.

## Let Excellent Logistics Become Christian Service

Warehouses don't usually sound spiritual.

Neither do pharmaceutical inventories.

Labels.

Packing.

Shipping.

Quality standards.

Order fulfillment.

Regulatory requirements.

Yet this is where Blessings International offers an important picture of ministry.

Compassion requires competence.

If medicine is going to reach a vulnerable person safely, good intentions aren't enough.

The right medicine has to arrive.

It has to be properly handled.

The labeling has to be correct.

The order has to make sense for the people being treated.

Blessings describes itself as Christ-centered while also emphasizing quality, customer service, integrity, and responsible stewardship.

Those values belong together.

Serving people well can itself become an expression of Christian love.

## Healing Can Open a Door

Blessings doesn't separate its humanitarian work from its Christian identity.

Its vision includes healing people, strengthening communities, and demonstrating the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.

Sometimes that demonstration travels in a very ordinary-looking bottle.

A patient may never visit the Oklahoma warehouse.

They may never know who packaged the medicine.

They may never hear the name Blessings International.

What they know is that they were sick.

Someone came.

And treatment was available.

Behind that moment can be an entire chain of Christians, donors, pharmacists, warehouse workers, medical professionals, missionaries, churches, and nonprofit partners working together.

One person gives.

Another prepares.

Another carries.

Another diagnoses.

Another treats.

And somewhere at the end of that chain, someone who was hurting receives care.

At the heart of Blessings International is the belief that medical care can become a tangible expression of the compassion of Jesus Christ. By putting affordable medicines, vitamins, and medical supplies into the hands of missionaries, clinics, hospitals, pregnancy centers, charitable pharmacies, and disaster-response teams, Blessings strengthens people who are already serving on the front lines. Its ministry often happens behind the scenes—but every carefully prepared order carries the possibility that somewhere else in the world, a healthcare worker will have exactly what is needed when a hurting person asks for help.
